Shell based design exploration
Recently, I have been learniing about shell based design and its applications in architecture. I have been exploring the geometry of shells and how it can be used to create designs. I will share some of my findings and insights on shell based design. The idea is quite simple, we can convert a 2D geometry into a 3D geometry by cutting it into pieces and then reassembling it. This can be done using a simple algorithm that cuts up a flat surface into positive and negative curvature by making incisions.
Feel free to print out and cut the PDFs and reassemble them to see the geometry in 3D.
